UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Danny Briere scored the tying goal in the third and the game-winner in overtime Wednesday, boosting Philadelphia to a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders.

The game featured two goals in the first 37 seconds and three unanswered tallies by the Islanders in the opening period, but the Flyers rallied to snap a two-game skid. New York is tied with Columbus for the fewest wins in the NHL at five.

Andrej Meszaros gave Philadelphia the lead 18 seconds into the game, but Kyle Okposo quickly tied it with the first of his two scores. Okposo tallied again midway through the first and Michael Grabner gave the Islanders a 3-1 lead before the period was over.

Scott Hartnell scored on the power play in the second to bring the Flyers within one. Briere's tying goal came with 5:42 left in regulation and he then scored on a wrist shot 2:34 into overtime.

Ilya Bryzgalov opened in goal for the Flyers, but was removed after giving up three goals on nine shots. Sergei Bobrovsky came on to stop all 23 shots he faced.

The four Philadelphia goals came against Rick DiPietro on 33 shots.
