LONDON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- David Ferrer upset world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets Wednesday and earned a semifinals slot at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Ferrer, seeded fifth, became the first Group A player to seal a spot in Saturday's semifinals when he beat Djokovic 6-3, 6-1. It was just the fifth loss in 75 matches for Djokovic this year.

Djokovic will play Janko Tipsarevic, who is subbing for the injured Andy Murray, in Friday's final day of round-robin competition with a chance to earn his own semifinal berth.

Tomas Berdych, like Djokovic 1-1 in the tournament, goes against Ferrer Friday. Berdych defeated Tipsarevic 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in his match Wednesday.

Ferrer won 10 of the last 11 games of the match with Djokovic. His second break of the day sealed the first set and his fourth won a 12-point game and gave him a 5-1 lead in the second set.

Berdych went to a third-set tiebreaker for the second time in the tournament. He lost Monday to Djokovic and had to fight off a match point against Tipsarevic. However, a Tipsarevic double fault put Berdych at match point and he placed a forehand winner to end the match.

Group B wraps up its round-robin Thursday. Roger Federer has already won the group and will play Mardy Fish. Second-seeded Rafael Nadal goes against sixth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with the winner advancing to the semifinals.
