HOMESTEAD, Fla., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Tony Stewart collected his third Sprint Cup championship trophy Sunday, edging Carl Edwards while winning the season-ending Ford 400 in Florida.

Stewart rallied from 40th place early in the race to finish 1.3 seconds ahead of Edwards at Homestead-Miami Speedway, which also allowed him to best Edwards in a points tiebreaker for the Sprint Cup title.

Both racers finished with 2,403 points, but Stewart prevailed in the tiebreaker due to his five wins this season -- all of which came during the championship Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Edwards, meanwhile, logged only one victory, which came in March at Las Vegas.

Edwards was the pole sitter and led the most laps with 119, giving him two bonus points.

Coming in third was Martin Truex Jr., while Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon rounded out the Top 5.
