Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Matt Read scored with 18.6 seconds left in regulation Thursday, giving Philadelphia a 2-1 victory over Phoenix.
Both teams had won two straight coming into the contest.
With overtime looming, Jakub Voracek fired a shot from the left boards that was stopped by Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith.
Smith, however, gave up a rebound that went to Maxime Talbot, who quickly fed it to Read for an easy goal.
James van Riemsdyk scored his seventh of the season midway through the second period to put the Flyers in front, but Mikkel Boedker tied it on a tip-in 3:38 into the third. Philadelphia has earned at least a point in eight straight games.
Ilya Bryzgalov, who spent the previous four seasons with Phoenix, got the win for his new team by making 30 saves. Smith stopped 40 shots.
Phoenix had a five-game road winning streak snapped.
