ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Sebastian Vettel tied a Formula One record Saturday by winning his 14th pole position of the season at qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Vettel secured the top spot for Sunday's race with a 3.451-mile lap of 1 minute, 38.481 seconds, which tied him for the record set by Nigel Mansell in 1992.

Vettel will have a chance to break the mark next month in Brazil.

Vettel, driving for Red Bull, edged Lewis Hamilton of McLaren by 0.14 seconds Saturday. McLaren's Jason Button qualified third.
