AVONDALE, Ariz., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Sam Hornish Jr., a former IndyCar champ, took his first NASCAR victory Saturday, winning the Nationwide Series event at Phoenix International Raceway.
Hornish grabbed the lead from Ricky Stenhouse Jr. following a restart on lap 140 and then held off Penske Racing teammate Brad Keselowski to notch a half-second victory.
Hornish logged a triumph in his 32nd Nationwide start -- a crash-filled affair that included seven cautions on a newly repaved and reconfigured 1-mile track.
Stenhouse finished fifth, enabling him to take a 41-point lead over Elliott Sadler with only one race to go.
Sadler saw his hopes evaporate after being involved in a five-car pile-up with 24 laps remaining.
Carl Edwards claimed third place and Joey Logano took the fourth spot.
