DETROIT, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Jimmy Howard picked up his third shutout of the season Friday by making 24 saves and carrying the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-0 decision over Edmonton.
It was Detroit's third straight win, a span during which the Red Wings have outscored the opposition by a combined 13-2. Howard blanked Anaheim Nov. 5 and gave up two goals Tuesday against Colorado.
The three shutouts equal Howard's single-season best. He also had three during the 2009-10 campaign.
Detroit came up with a goal in each period, getting scores from Drew Miller in the first, Niklas Kronwall in the second and Valtteri Filppula in the third.
Nikolai Khabibulin took the loss, stopping 27-of-30 shots. Edmonton has dropped three out of four and has lost six consecutive meetings with the Red Wings.
