UCF AD Tribble resigns amid probe

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- University of Central Florida Athletic Director Keith Tribble has resigned amid an NCAA probe, school President John Hitt announced Wednesday.

Hitt said Tribble and wide receivers coach David Kelly resigned, while men's basketball Coach Donnie Jones had been suspended for the first three Conference USA games of the season, The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

The school released an NCAA report alleging certain UCF athletics staff members used the help of a professional recruiter in the pursuit of six men's basketball and five football players.

Only one of the prospective students ever played at UCF, Hitt said.

The moves follow media reports indicating Chicago sports figure Ken Caldwell may have been operating as a middle man between professional agents and recruits in violation of NCAA rules, the Sentinel reported.

"It's an unfortunate situation, and I just hope the best for the University of Central Florida and the football program, but especially for the student athletes involved," Kelly said.

The NCAA findings won't have any effect on the school's move to the Big East Conference, Hitt asserted.
