FORT WORTH, Texas, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Tony Stewart led most of the way in Sunday's AAA Texas 500 but had to come from behind at the end to win his fourth Chase for the Sprint Cup race.
Stewart's victory enabled him to cut Carl Edwards' championship points lead to just three with two races remaining at Phoenix next Sunday and at Homestead, Fla., Nov. 20.
Stewart led for 173 of 334 laps but Jeff Burton had the lead in the late going. Stewart took the top spot for good when Burton ran out of fuel with five laps to go after opting not to pit during the final round of stops.
Kasey Kahne finished third, followed by Matt Kenseth and pole-sitter Greg Biffle.
Kyle Busch was mathematically eliminated from the Chase after sitting out Sunday's race. He was suspended for deliberately wrecking Ron Hornaday Jr.'s pickup in Friday's Camping World Truck Series event at Texas Motor Speedway.
