NHL: New York Rangers 3, Winnipeg 0

NEW YORK, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Martin Biron made 23 saves in a shutout Sunday and the New York Rangers improved to 4-1-1 at home with their 3-0 whitewash of Winnipeg.

Biron posted the 27th shutout of his career but first since 2009-10, turning aside nine shots in the first period when the Rangers killed off two Jets power plays.

Derek Stepan broke a scoreless tie midway through the second period on a power-play goal off the rebound of a Marian Gaborik shot.

Gaborik made it 2-0 New York 8 1/2 minutes into the final frame and added an empty-netter for the 7-3-3 Rangers, who beat Winnipeg for the second time this year.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 24-of-26 shots as the Jets lost for the second time in two nights while playing the sixth contest of a seven-game road trip.
