BALI, Indonesia, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Defending champion Ana Ivanovic and Anabel Medina Garrigues earned spots Saturday in the finals of the WTA's Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions.
Ivanovic was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Nadia Petrova and Medina Garrigues was up 6-3, 4-6, 4-0 when third-seeded Sabine Lisicki retired.
Medina Garrigues and Lisicki played for more than 2 hours before Lisicki was forced to stop because of a back injury. Medina Garrigues had won 18 of the 22 points in the third set when the match stopped.
Medina Garrigues upset top-seeded Marion Bartoli in the quarterfinals, taking a lead in the third set when Bartoli stopped play because of injury.
Ivanovic won more than half the points off Petrova's serve and had five service breaks in nine games in her semifinal win.
Ivanovic owns a 2-1 series edge over Medina Garrigues but they haven't played since 2009. Sunday's winner will collect $210,000 with the runner-up receiving $120,000.
The Tournament of Champions field is determined by invitations to the six highest-ranked players who have won at least one title during the year but didn't qualify for the WTA Championships plus two wild-card entrants. It is the final event on the 2011 WTA calendar.
