PHOENIX, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Manager Kirk Gibson and General Manager Kevin Towers could be with the Diamondbacks through 2016, after Arizona gave them contract extensions.

The NL West champion Diamondbacks finished the 2011 season 94-68, after going 65-97 in 2010. Gibson took over as manager in July 2010 after A.J. Hinch was fired, and Towers replaced Josh Byrnes as GM two months later.

After taking the NL West by eight games, the Diamondbacks were eliminated by Milwaukee in the 2011 post-season.

The Arizona Republic said the new contracts were for three years with club options for two years.

Diamondbacks President and Chief Executive Officer Derrick Hall said through Twitter he was enjoying the fan response to the contract extensions.
