LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Nikolai Khabibulin easily won an anticipated goaltending battle with Jonathan Quick Thursday, sending the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-0 triumph over Los Angeles.
Khabibulin, in his 16th NHL season, made 19 saves in recording his second shutout of the year and the 45th of his career.
The Oilers won their sixth straight game and Khabibulin extended his personal winning streak to five. He came into the contest with a 1.12 goals-against average and has not given up more than two goals in a game all season.
Quick brought a 1.52 goals-against average into the game and already has three shutouts, but he gave up all three Edmonton goals on 27 shots.
Ryan Smyth opened the scoring with 8:34 left in the second period and Lennart Petrell put a backhander past Quick with 2:22 remaining in the stanza.
Corey Potter added a goal on a slap shot 1:06 into the third.
