INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- In a tweet to fans, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay suggested star quarterback Peyton Manning could be back by the end of the year.
Without Manning, who is recovering from neck surgery, the Colts are 0-8 so far this season. Irsay gave his latest hint Tuesday, the Indianapolis Star reported.
Manning remains on the active roster instead of injured reserve. That would allow him to practice with the team even if he does not play in a game.
That was what Irsay suggested Tuesday: "8 weeks til xmas, less than 100 days til Super Bowl Peyton's healing well, maybe he'll take a snap b4 the ball falls in NYC, New Year's Eve!"
Manning, 35, was the Colts' first-round draft pick in 1998 and has been with the team his entire professional career. He has led the team to two Super Bowls, including a championship in 2007, and been named the NFL Most Valuable Player a record four times.
Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian said on his radio show Monday the team has kept Manning on the roster because he "needs to feel good about being back and doing the things he wants to do."
