Vikings fullback Felton charged with DWI
CHICAGO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Jed Hoyer was introduced Tuesday as the Chicago Cubs' new general manager under recently hired baseball operations chief Theo Epstein.
Hoyer, who has spent the last two seasons as the GM of the San Diego Padres, previously worked with Epstein for eight seasons with the Boston Red Sox.
He rose to become Boston's senior vice president and assistant general manager before leaving for the Padres.
Hoyer, 37, becomes the 15th general manager in Cubs history, replacing Randy Bush, who had taken over for the fired Jim Hendry in July.
Epstein also announced the hiring of Jason McLeod as senior vice president of scouting and player development. Like Hoyer, McLeod comes to the Cubs from the Padres.
"Jed and Jason are among the most dynamic in the game and both will have a significant impact on our baseball operations department," Epstein said. "I've worked with both extensively in the past and am excited to build an organization with them again."
McLeod, 39, joined the Red Sox for the 2004 season and remained through 2009, leaving for San Diego when Hoyer was named GM there.
