MIAMI, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- The NBA confirmed Monday it has fined Miami Heat owner Micky Arison for comments he posted on his Twitter account regarding the league's labor problems.
NBA spokesman Tim Frank told the South Florida Sun Sentinel the league has fined Arison. He didn't specify the amount of the fine, but Yahoo! Sports reported it was $500,000.
Arison was sanctioned for violating an order issued by NBA Commissioner David Stern in July prohibiting team and league personnel from commenting on the owner-imposed lockout of players following the failure to agree on a new collective bargaining agreement.
Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan was also fined for making such comments, reportedly for $100,000.
The Sun Sentinel said Arison posted several lockout-related items on his Twitter account in the form of responses to others' comments after Stern last week canceled games through November.
Arison, considered to be among the owners most anxious for play to resume, replied "Exactly" to a commenter who wrote, "Know it's not ur fault at this point, it's become child's play. Grown men making stupid decisions over money."
