VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Henrik Sedin's tally ignited a three-goal outburst in the third period Saturday that carried the Vancouver Canucks to a 7-4 win over Washington.
Sedin broke a 4-4 tie 6:18 into the final frame when he poked in a loose puck during scramble in front of the Capitals' net on a power play, and Chris Higgins added his second goal of the game only 34 seconds later for Vancouver.
Maxim Lapierre scored 3 1/2 minutes after that to conclude the scoring for the Canucks, who also got two goals and an assist from Alexander Edler.
Roberto Luongo stopped 28-of-32 shots as the Canucks rebounded from two straight losses.
Alex Ovechkin scored twice for Washington, which was defeated for only the second time in nine games to start the season.
Tomas Vokoun started in goal and was pulled after the first period, during which he allowed three markers on 17 shots. Michal Neuvirth was tagged for four goals on 26 shots the rest of the way for the Caps.
