HARRISON, N.J., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Mike Magee scored Sunday and the Los Angeles Galaxy claimed a 1-0 victory in the first leg of their first-round playoff series with Red Bull New York.

Magee found the net in the 15th minute, firing a shot to the far post as New York goalkeeper Frank Rost and his teammates expressed surprised Galaxy striker wasn't called offside.

Rost, however, kept the deficit to one goal in the 56th minute when he made a crucial one-on-one save against Landon Donovan.

Los Angeles goalkeeper Josh Saunders later made a fine save of his own when he stopped a long-distance shot from Rafa Marquez.

The match ended with a scuffle when Marquez and Galaxy midfielder Juninho traded punches.

The Galaxy will carry the one-goal lead into Thursday's second leg of the Western Conference semifinal series at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
