COMMERCE CITY, Colo., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Teal Bunbury scored two second-half goals Sunday and Sporting Kansas City logged a 2-0 win over Colorado in the first leg of their playoff series.
Bunbury put KC on the board in the 49th minute by collecting a through ball from Julio Cesar and calmly putting it into the net.
The striker then made it 2-0 10 minutes later by converting a spot kick even as he was being fouled by Tyrone Marshall in the box.
The Rapids, meanwhile, had to make three injury substitutions and were forced to play a man down after Marshall's red card.
Sporting will take their commanding two-goal lead into Wednesday's second leg of the Eastern Conference semifinal series at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., where they compiled a 9-2-6 regular season record.
