"It was a good session for us at a new circuit," Vettel said after navigating the newly built 16-turn circuit. "It was tricky for all of us."

Vettel, driving for Red Bull, toured the 3.192-mile Buddh International Circuit in 1 minute, 24.178 seconds, finishing 3/10ths of a second faster than Lewis Hamilton of McLaren. Hamilton was dropped down three positions because of a penalty, giving the second slot in Sunday's race to Vettel's teammate Mark Webber.
