DALLAS, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Vernon Fidler's third-period goal put Dallas ahead and Keri Lehtonen made 31 saves Saturday in the Dallas Stars' 3-1 win over New Jersey.
Fidler got control of the puck behind the New Jersey net with 8 1/2 minutes left in a tie contest and used a wrap-around shot to bank the puck off a defenseman's skate and past goalie Johan Hedberg for the go-ahead score.
Lehtonen, meanwhile, was solid down the stretch, turning aside all nine New Jersey shot in the final period as the Pacific Division-leading Stars won for the second time in three games.
Loui Eriksson tallied in the first period and Sheldon Souray added an empty-netter for Dallas.
Petr Sykora scored his first goal of the year and Hedberg finished with 20 saves for the Devils.
