ORCHARD PARK, N.Y., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- The Buffalo Bills announced Friday quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had agreed to a contract extension.

The NFL Network reported the deal was for six years and $59 million, of which $24 million is guaranteed.

Fitzpatrick is in the final year of a three-year contract. He was selected in the seventh round of the draft out of Harvard in 2005 and spent two years with St. Louis and two with Cincinnati before coming to the Bills in 2009 as a backup to Trent Edwards.

He led the Bills to a 4-0 start this year, but Buffalo has dropped its last two games and trails New England by a game in the AFC East.

Through six games this season Fitzpatrick has thrown for 1,477 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. Buffalo has averaged 31.3 points per game, third-best in the league behind New Orleans and Green Bay.
