PITTSBURGH, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Evgeni Malkin scored the only shootout goal Thursday to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders, the Penguins' fifth straight victory.

Pittsburgh rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was perfect in the shootout. The Penguins boosted their point total for the year to 18, most in the NHL.

Frans Nielsen scored on a slap shot to open the scoring for the Islanders with 1:01 left in the first period and it remained a 1-0 game until Matt Martin increased the advantage 45 seconds into the third.

Pittsburgh then tied it during the next 3:30 with Chris Kunitz and James Neal providing the goals. Neal, who scored on the power play, leads the league in goals with nine.

After Malkin scored in the second round of the shootout, Neal had a chance to clinch the victory for the Penguins. He was unable to put his penalty shot past Rick DiPietro, but Fleury stopped an attempt by John Tavares to wrap up the victory.

DiPietro came into the game at the start of the shootout in place of Evgeni Nabokov, who made 30 saves in regulation and overtime. Fleury stopped 17 shots.
