ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- No. 5-seeded Mikhail Youzhny survived a three-set challenge Wednesday in taking a second-round win at the St. Petersburg Open tennis tournament in Russia.

Youzhny got past Julien Benneteau 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 despite losing his serve four times. However, three of those breaks came in the second set and he managed the sole break of the third set to advance to the quarterfinals.

He'll next go against Adrian Mannarino who backed up his first-round upset of top-seeded Gilles Simon with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) decision over Lukas Rosol. Mannarino won 70 percent of the points on serve.

No. 2-seeded Janko Tipsarevic posted a 6-2, 7-5 first-round win over Olivier Rochus. Tipsarevic had 10 aces but won the match by cashing in all five of his break-point chances.

Also in the first round Wednesday, Igor Andreev eliminated sixth-seeded Marcel Granollers 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in a match that took nearly 3 hours; Andreas Seppi edged by Vasek Pospisil 7-5, 7-6 (7-4); and Philipp Kohlschreiber topped Carlos Berlocq 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-1.
