CHICAGO, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The Chicago Rush Arena Football League team said Wednesday it has offered free-agent receiver Terrell Owens a contract.

Gene Nudo, the Rush's general manager and team president, said his club is ready to step in with a contract for the 15-year NFL veteran, who is attempting to catch on with an NFL team after recovering from a torn knee ligament.

"We feel that this is an ideal time to approach the future NFL Hall of Famer," Nudo said. "It would be a fantastic honor to add Terrell to our current roster for the 2012 season."

Owens held an open workout this week in a bid to attract a new job but no NFL teams sent any scouts, multiple reports said.

Instead, the Rush said the six-time Pro Bowl receiver was welcome in Chicago, despite his reputation for on- and off-field antics.

"Terrell would absolutely complement our current wide receiving corps," Rush Coach Bob McMillen said. "His animation and over-the-top energy would be an excellent addition in the locker room, and the Chicago fans would undoubtedly welcome him here in Chicago."

Owens racked up 983 yards and nine touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.
