MONTREAL, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Scotty Upshall's tip-in of a Dmitry Kulikov shot in the third period Monday proved to be the game-winner in the Florida Panthers' 2-1 decision over Montreal.
Upshall was standing to the right of Montreal goalie Peter Budaj when he got a stick on Kulikov's blast from the point, deflecting it past the netminder 5 minutes into the final frame to break a 1-1 tie.
It was the first goal of the season for Upshall, who signed a four-year, $14 million deal with Florida in the off-season.
Tomas Fleischmann scored for the Panthers while Jacob Markstrom turned aside 40-of-41 shots to earn the victory.
Budaj ended up making 29 saves while Erik Cole scored for the Habs (1-5-2), who lost a sixth straight game for the first time since February 2007.
