ALAMEDA, Calif., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Kyle Boller will start for Oakland Sunday instead of Carson Palmer, who came to the Raiders this week in a trade with Cincinnati, the NFL Network said.

Citing a league source, the network reported Friday Boller had been chosen to make his first start since he was with the St. Louis Rams two years ago.

Oakland found itself in need of a quarterback when Jason Campbell suffered a fractured collarbone last Sunday against Cleveland. The Raiders obtained Palmer, who was under contract with Cincinnati but was holding out while demanding a trade.

Oakland gave the Bengals a first-round draft pick to obtain Palmer and added another draft pick to the deal that could become a first-rounder as well if the Raiders make it to the playoffs.

Oakland Coach Hue Jackson declined to name his starter Friday, saying he was holding back on the announcement "because I can."

"I'll make the right decision for our football team as we draw closer to the game," Jackson said. "I'm not in a rush."

Oakland has won two games in a row, has a 4-2 record and is a half game behind San Diego for the lead in the AFC West.

The Raiders last made the playoffs in 2002, when they went to the Super Bowl, losing to Tampa Bay 48-21.
