TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Vincent Lecavalier assisted on the first goal and scored in the second period Thursday in helping the Tampa Bay Lightning down the New York Islanders 4-1.

The Lightning ended a five-game losing streak, the second-longest skid thus far in the NHL this season. The only longer skid is the six-game losing streak Columbus still has working as the lone winless team left in the league.

Lecavalier assisted on Ryan Malone's power-play goal with 3:28 to go in the opening period, and then put a wrist shot by Al Montoya with 4:46 to go in the second.

Steven Stamkos gave Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead early in the third and Brett Clark tipped in a shot with 3:01 remaining for the final Lightning tally.

The only goal the Islanders could manage against Mathieu Garon came 7:55 into the third from Michael Grabner. That was one of just 17 shots New York put on net.

Montoya stopped 26-of-30 Tampa Bay attempts.
