Public service set for Wheldon

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- A public memorial service for Dan Wheldon, who died in an IndyCar race, has been scheduled for Sunday at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, an official said.

The Indianapolis Star reported an IndyCar spokeswoman said in a news release the service for Wheldon is set for 4 p.m.

Wheldon died of injuries he suffered Sunday in a 15-car crash just after the start of the IndyCar season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

A Web site also has been set up where people can leave condolences and remembrances, the Star said. The site www.danwheldonmemorial.com includes a career photo retrospective.

The news release also said the Dan Weldon Family Trust Fund has been set up and contributions can be sent to Fifth Third Private Bank, Attention: Dan Wheldon Family Trust, 251 N. Illinois St., Suite 1000, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
