Reports: Rookie Ponder to start for Vikes

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Rookie quarterback Christian Ponder will take over from Donovan McNabb for the struggling Minnesota Vikings, his representatives confirmed Tuesday.

Citing unnamed sources, WCCO-TV, Minneapolis, and the NFL Network each reported Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier had already informed the veteran McNabb he won't be starting Sunday's game against Green Bay.

Ponder's management agency, SportsTrust Advisors, confirmed the news on its Twitter account, congratulating the first-round draft pick out of Florida State.

He will take the helm of a team that has dropped to 1-5 after Sunday's 39-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. Ponder made his professional debut in the fourth quarter of the one-sided setback, going 9-of-17 through the air for 99 yards.
