PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- The new owners of the Philadelphia 76ers introduced themselves to fans Tuesday after the NBA Board of Governors approved their purchase of the team.

New York billionaire Joshua Harris leads the ownership group, which purchased the team from Comcast-Spectacor. He and partner David Blitzer will serve as co-managing owners, Harris told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

"I can assure you we will be active, long-term owners who care deeply about this team, its performance, its fans, the city of Philadelphia," he said. "We think the team is moving in the right direction and we're very excited about it."

His goal, he said, is to "create a world-class franchise and win an NBA championship."

The team sold for approximately $280 million, not including the Wells Fargo Center. Harris announced price reductions on tickets and vowed to focus on open communication with the fan base, the newspaper said.

He confirmed that former General Manager Ed Stefanski had been let go.

Stefanski had previously been linked to open GM positions in Toronto and Portland.
