

MOSCOW, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Ekaterina Ivanova posted a three-set upset of fifth-seeded Jelena Jankovic in first-round play Tuesday at the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament in Moscow.
Ivanova overcame six service breaks en route to a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over Jankovic. She led 5-2 in the first set when Jankovic seemed to find her game and evened the match with a solid second set.
But Ivanova lost her serve just once and had two of her five overall breaks in the third set to secure a second-round slot.
No. 6-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Alize Cornet. Kuznetsova finished off all five of the break-point opportunities she had.
Klara Zakopalova defeated Olga Savchuk 6-3, 6-1 in 55 minutes and Ksenia Pervak got past Galina Voskoboeva 7-5, 6-4. Also, Lucie Safarova beat Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-3 and Tsvetana Pironkova advanced when Petra Martic retired after Pironkova won the first set 6-1.
