CARSON, Calif., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- A goal by Chad Barrett early in the second half Sunday gave Los Angeles its 19th victory of the MLS season, a 1-0 decision over Chivas USA.

With a week left in the regular campaign, Sunday's game had no playoff implications. Los Angeles, which has lost just four times all year, had already clinched the best record in the league and Chivas (8-13-12) had been eliminated from post-season contention.

Barrett scored on a header in the 53rd minute off a crossing pass by Adam Cristman. It was Barrett's seventh goal of the season, second on the team behind Landon Donovan's 12.

Los Angeles will make a bid for win No. 20 when it ends the regular season next Sunday at home against Houston.
