Kvitova wins fifth title of the year

LINZ, Austria, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova won her fifth title of the year Sunday with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Dominika Cibulkova at the Generali Ladies Linz,

The top-seeded Kvitova broke out of the slump that she had suffered through since claiming the Wimbledon crown in July. She recorded six service breaks and prevented Cibulkova from capturing what would have been the first championship of her career.

Kvitova defeated Maria Sharapova in the Wimbledon finals, then was knocked out in the third round in both her appearances leading up to the U.S. Open.

She then lost to Alexandra Dulgheru in the opening match at the Open. After reaching the semifinals in Tokyo, Kvitova again lost in the opening round last week at the China Open.

World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, with six titles, is the only player to have won more tournaments this year than Kvitova.

This was the third championship match appearance for Cibulkova and her first in three years.
