CONCORD, N.C., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Matt Kenseth, chasing a Sprint Cup Series title, won the Bank of America 500 Saturday after Jimmie Johnson wrecked his ride in the late going in Charlotte, N.C.
Kenseth, trying to replicate his 2003 series championship, zipped by Kyle Busch just before Johnson, going for a sixth-straight Sprint title, plowed into the outside wall with 18 laps to go and wound up 34th.
After the debris was cleared, Kenseth raced through the last 12 laps a second ahead of Busch for his third win this season and the 21st of his career.
Third place went to Carl Edwards, who pumped up his points lead to five over Kevin Harvick, who took the sixth spot.
Kasey Kahne and Marcos Ambrose rounded out the Top 5.
Kenseth is now within seven points of Edwards. Busch is 18 points in back of Edwards and Johnson trails the leader by 35 points with five races to go.
