YEONGAM, South Korea, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Sebastian Vettel finished second behind Lewis Hamilton Saturday in the race for pole position at the Korean Grand Prix.
Hamilton, driving for McLaren, zoomed around the 3.49-mile course at Yeongam in 1 minute, 35.820 seconds to edge Red Bull's Vettel, who has started on the pole 12 times this Formula One season, by more than a half-second.
Vettel said afterward the entire McLaren team looked sharp in the qualifying. "You could see that they were a fair chunk ahead of everyone else including us," Vettel said. "But we saved all our prime tires. It's a long race, a lot of things can happen and tire wear will be crucial."
McLaren teammate Jenson Button and Red Bull's Webber make up the second row, and Ferrari occupies row 3 in Sunday's main event.
