Edwards hits wall, wins Nationwide race

CONCORD, N.C., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Carl Edwards scraped the wall 32 laps into the event Friday and then rallied down the stretch to capture NASCAR's Dollar General 300 Nationwide race.

Edwards' car sustained damage to the right side after the encounter with the wall at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He fell back to 27th place in the 43-car field, but slowly made his way to the front and trailed only Kyle Busch when the drivers were slowed by a late caution.

On the restart Edwards passed Busch and held on for the final five laps to win on the Nationwide circuit for the eighth time this year. His 37 career victories on the circuit put him in a third-place tie all time with Kevin Harvick.

Busch wound up second, followed by Trevor Bayne and Elliott Sadler. Ricky Stenhouse, who finished ninth, holds a 15-point lead over Sadler in the race for the Nationwide championship.
