PITTSBURGH, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Dennis Wideman scored on the power play 2:48 into overtime Thursday to keep the Washington Capitals unbeaten with a 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

Jordan Staal was in the penalty box for tripping when Nicklas Backstrom took the puck into the Pittsburgh zone and flipped a pass to his right that found Wideman. He fired a shot into the left corner past Brent Johnson.

Mike Knuble and Alex Ovechkin scored the regulation goals for Washington and Tomas Vokoun made 39 saves. The season-opening Washington winning streak has reached three games.

Both of Pittsburgh's goals came from James Neal, who has four in the Penguins' five outings. His second tally came on the power play with 3:45 left in regulation and forced overtime.

Johnson stopped 16-of-19 shots.

The Penguins learned earlier in the day that star center Sidney Crosby had been cleared for contact. He has not played since Jan. 5, when he suffered a concussion in a game against Tampa Bay.
