Vikings fullback Felton charged with DWI
SCHENECTADY, N.Y., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Richard Dutrow Jr., trainer of 2008 Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown, was barred from racetracks Wednesday after New York officials revoked his license.
The state Racing and Wagering Board pulled Dutrow's license for at least 10 years, citing a long history of violations, making him perhaps the highest-profile trainer ever to receive such harsh discipline, The New York Times reported.
The newspaper said records indicate Dutrow has been cited 64 times in nine states for violations, including multiple medication infractions.
Hearing Officer Clemente Parente recommended Dutrow, 52, be barred for life, but the racing board instead opted to give him an opportunity to reapply for his license after 10 years.
Top racetracks across the country are likely to honor the New York ban.
Horses trained by Dutrow have racked up $79 million in career purses, winning such prestigious races as the Preakness Stakes, the Metropolitan Mile and the Breeders' Cup Classic.
He is ranked 27th among trainers nationally with $3 million in purse earnings this year, the newspaper said.
