ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Detroit outfielder Delmon Young, dropped from the Tigers' playoff roster due to injury, will replace Magglio Ordonez, who has a broken ankle.
Young was left off the team's American League Championship Series roster after he suffered a left oblique muscle injury in Game 5 of the AL Divisional Series against the New York Yankees.
But he's back to replace Ordonez, who was diagnosed with a fracture in his right ankle Sunday. Officials said he apparently was injured during batting practice before Detroit's ALCS opener Saturday in Texas.
Ordonez broke the ankle in July 2010 and had surgery the next month, ending his 2010 season.
Ordonez was hitting .455 for the playoffs with one run scored but no runs batted in.
Young hit three home runs in the series with the Yankees. He had an average of .316 and three RBI.
He had been replaced on the ALCS roster by infielder Danny Worth, who appeared in 30 games for Detroit during the regular season.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven ALCS is Monday in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers lead the series 1-0.
