Vikings fullback Felton charged with DWI
NEW YORK, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Negotiators for NBA owners and locked-out players met Sunday night in a last-ditch attempt to save the start of the season, multiple reports indicated.
Citing "a person briefed on the meeting," The New York Times reported NBA Commissioner David Stern and Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver met with NBA Players Association President Derek Fisher and Billy Hunter, the union's executive director.
The bargaining session had stretched to 3 hours by late Sunday, U.S. broadcaster TNT reported.
Stern said last week that if a deal on a new collective bargaining agreement isn't reached by Monday, the first two weeks of the NBA regular season, scheduled to start Nov. 1, would be canceled.
No further meetings had been held or scheduled since then.
The commissioner said owners have proposed a 50-50 split of league revenues between the owners and players. They had originally sought to reduce the players' share from 57 percent under expired agreement to 46 percent.
The players, meanwhile, have responded by offering to reduce their share to 53 percent.
Rather than meeting on the revenue split issue, it's possible Sunday's session could be focusing on other issues in a bid to move forward, the Times reported.
