STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Jack Johnson's power-play goal 4 minutes into overtime Friday lifted the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers in an NHL game in Sweden.
The game was part of season-opening series of NHL games played in Europe.
The Kings' Mike Richards forced the extra period with a goal with 5 minutes to play in regulation. Richards, playing his first game for Los Angeles, and Anze Kopitar assisted on Johnson's game-winner.
With the Rangers' Brandon Dubinsky sent off for a 10-minute misconduct penalty, Los Angeles worked the power play on the right side with Richard's short shot rebounding off Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Johnson, on the left side of the goal, had no trouble putting the rebound away.
Kopitar put the Kings ahead midway through the first period, but the Rangers got the next two goals Ryan Callahan scored about 4 1/2 minutes after Kopitar and Marian Gaborik gave New York the lead with a goal 10:28 into the third period.
Richard tied the score at the 15:01 mark of the third period.
Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick made 22 saves while Lundqvist ended with 27.
