Ivanovic posts third-round upset in China

BEIJING, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Ana Ivanovic rolled to a third-round victory Wednesday over No. 3-seeded Vera Zvonareva at the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing.

Ivanovic won more than 60 percent of the points both serving and receiving in a 6-2, 6-1 win. The decision evened the career series at 5-5 between the players and ended Zvonareva's three-match winning streak over Ivanovic.

Ivanovic ended up with six breaks in Zvonareva's seven service games, including all four in the first set.

In another third-round match, No. 9-seeded Andrea Petkovic got by eighth-seeded Marion Bartoli 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, giving Petkovic three wins in four meetings this year against Bartoli. Petkovic had three breaks in each the second and third sets in winning Wednesday.

Second-seeded Victoria Azarenka claimed a second-round victory, getting by Polona Hercog 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 in a match that took nearly two hours. Hercog had 11 aces but Azarenka still managed five service breaks.

Also in the second round, 11th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Zheng Jie and Monica Niculescu ousted Chanelle Scheepers 6-2, 6-1.
