Blackhawks' Bowman gets contract extension

CHICAGO, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman has been given a three-year contract extension that will keep him in Chicago through the 2015-16 season.

The NHL club didn't reveal how much it will pay Bowman, who is entering his 11th season with the Blackhawks and third as head of hockey operations.

"I am very proud of the direction that Stan has taken our hockey operations group in from the moment he took over the role," Blackhawks Chief Executive Officer John McDonough said in a statement. "Stan's leadership and collaboration with the entire hockey operations group has developed a strong foundation and gives us the continuity we need as we strive for consistent excellence."

After ending their 49-year Stanley Cup drought with a championship in 2010, the Blackhawks barely made the playoffs last spring, then fell to eventual conference champion Vancouver in seven games.

The Blackhawks have gone 99-51-17 during the regular season and 19-10 in the post-season under Bowman.

The 38-year-old Bowman is the youngest general manager in the NHL.
