CLEVELAND, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack was having an appendectomy Monday afternoon, his coach said.

Browns Coach Pat Shurmur said Mack showed up with symptoms of appendicitis and was sent to have surgery.

Mack, 25, has started all 36 games for the Browns in three NFL seasons.

The 6-foot-4, 311-pounder was a first-round draft pick out of California.
