It's all even in ALDS

ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Mike Napoli's two-run single highlighted a big fourth inning Saturday that carried Texas to an 8-6 win over Tampa Bay in Game 2 of their divisional series.

Trailing 3-0 entering the frame, the Rangers scored five times to grab control of the game and hung on for the win, evening their best-of-five American League Division Series with the Rays.

Texas also scored on a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch in the uprising, during which they sent 10 men to the plate.

Mitch Moreland drove in two runs, including a solo homer, and Ian Kinsler added a two-run double for Texas.

Derek Holland (1-0) earned the victory for the Rangers, yielding only one earned run over five innings, and Neftali Feliz notched the save.

Tampa Bay's James Shields (0-1) was tagged for seven runs on eight hits over five frames.

Evan Longoria hit a three-run homer and Matt Joyce added a two-run shot for the Rays.

No progress cited in NBA labor talks

NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Negotiators for NBA team owners and locked-out players reported no progress on collective bargaining talks after an all-day session Saturday in New York.

NBA Commissioner David Stern told NBA.com the two sides were "closer than we were before" but still "not near anything." Billy Hunter, executive director of the National Basketball Players Association, added, "we're still miles apart."

The two sides agreed to resume talks Monday.

"If we didn't think there was any hope, we wouldn't be scheduling the meetings. But that's the best I would say right now," Stern said.

The overarching issue is the split of "basketball-related revenue," on which the owners are seeking major concessions. They are demanding players reduce their share of BRI from 57 percent to 46 percent, the Web site said.

The first week of NBA exhibition games, beginning Oct. 9, have been canceled due to the lockout, now in its 93rd day.

Watney grabs share of Las Vegas lead

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Nick Watney charged into a share of the lead Saturday after three rounds of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, firing a 7-under-par 64.

Watney collected birdies on five of the last six holes to forge a tie with Kevin Na atop the leaderboard at 17-under 196 after 54 holes at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

Watney, ranked 11th in the world, has held at least a share of the third-round lead five times in 2011, and has gone on to win twice.

Tied one shot behind Watney and Na at minus-16 were Kris Blanks (66) and Robert Garrigus.

Tim Herron (67), Tommy Gainey (64) and Paul Goydos (66) were knotted for fifth place one shot further back.

Edwards breezes to Dover Nationwide win

DOVER, Del., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Carl Edwards led for 179 of 200 laps Saturday, breezing to a victory at the Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway.

Edwards racked up his seventh win of the season and the 36th of his Nationwide career.

He dominated the race and finished 0.8 seconds ahead of his fellow Sprint Cup Series competitor, Brad Keselowski.

Claiming third place was Clint Bowyer, while Kasey Kahne and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rounded out the Top 5.

Stenhouse boosted his lead in the Nationwide standings to 22 points over Elliott Sadler, who came in 14th Saturday.

Jankovic ousted in Round 1 of Beijing Open

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Jelena Jankovic was among the early departures in Saturday's opening round of the Beijing Open.

The 10th-seeded Jankovic, who won Beijing in 2008, went quietly in a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Tamira Paszek.

Five other seeded players were more fortunate and advanced to the second round.

Seventh-seeded Francesca Schiavone moved on with a straight-sets win over Bojana Jovanovski. Also moving on were No. 9 seed Andrea Petkovic and 15th-seeded Roberta Vinci.

Another past champion, 2006 and 2009 winner Svetlana Kuznetsova, won her first-round match when Alexandra Dulgheru retired with a knee injury.
