Radwanska tops Zvonareva in Tokyo final

TOKYO, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Vera Zvonareva in a tournament final the second time this year and won the Toray Pan Pacific Open Saturday in Tokyo.

Radwanska, seeded ninth, picked up the fifth title of her WTA career with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the fourth-seeded Zvonareva. She also beat Zvonareva in the championship match at Carlsbad, Calif., this year.

It was the third consecutive match that Radwanska took out a higher seeded player. She beat No. 8 Jelena Jankovic in the third round and third-seeded Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals.

Radwanska piled up five service breaks Saturday against Zvonareva and won 57 percent of the points when receiving serve. She rolled through the second set, losing just 16 points in eight games.

Zvonareva, ranked No. 4, would have moved to No. 2 in world rankings with a win Saturday. She fell to 2-2 on the year in tournament finals, having won at Qatar and Azerbaijan in addition to the loss at Carlsbad.

Radwanska collected $360,000 for the championship. Zvonareva settled for $180,000.
