MLB: Oakland 2, Seattle 0

SEATTLE, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Gio Gonzalez struck out 11 and gave up just two hits over eight scoreless innings Wednesday to wrap up Oakland's season with a 2-0 win over Seattle.

The teams played the 2,429th and final game of baseball's regular season. The only game this year to be postponed and not made up was one between the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Gonzalez (16-12) equaled his career best with the 11 strikeouts and wound up winning his final four starts. Andrew Bailey worked a perfect ninth for his 24th save.

Oakland scored on a two-run blast by Jai Miller in the second. The homer was given up by Anthony Vasquez (1-6), who worked just two innings.

Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki went 0-for-3 and had 184 hits this season. It is the first time in his 11-year career that he has had fewer than 200.

The 67 wins for Seattle were second-fewest in the American League, ahead of Minnesota's 63. The Athletics won 74 games and finished 22 behind division-winning Texas.
