NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre and Milwaukee left fielder Ryan Braun were named Thursday as Major League Baseball's players of the month for September.

Beltre was honored in the American League for hitting .374 with 12 homers and 21 RBI in 23 games. He finished the year with a 10-game hitting streak, during which he hit .381.

Texas won its final six games en route to its second straight AL West title.

Braun put together a slugging percentage of .620 and tied for second in the National League with eight home runs during the month. He became only the second player in franchise history to hit at least 30 homers and steal 30 bases in a single season, producing 33 in both categories.

MLB also announced the pitchers of the month were Florida's Javier Vazquez and Detroit's Doug Fister.

Vazquez went 5-0 in five starts during September and had an 0.71 earned run average. He was second in the National League in innings pitched (38) and fourth in strikeouts (36). He walked only three batters all month.

Fister went 5-0 during September with an American League-best 0.53 ERA. He struck out 34 in 34 innings.

Rookie-of-the-month honors went to Kansas City first baseman Eric Hosmer and Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Dee Gordon.
