LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Former Major League Baseball player Milton Bradley was arrested after allegedly swinging a bat at his wife, Los Angeles police said Wednesday.

Authorities said Bradley, who last played for the Seattle Mariners this season, was taken into custody Tuesday near his Los Angeles home on charges of felony assault, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Police said they responded to a domestic violence call at the ex-player's San Fernando Valley home and arrested him in his car on a nearby street without incident.

Authorities alleged a verbal argument between Bradley, 33, and his wife escalated and that the former outfielder took a swing at his spouse with a bat but missed, and then fled.

Bradley -- who also played for Montreal, Cleveland, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland, San Diego, Texas and the Chicago Cubs -- was released on $30,000 bond after a bail hearing, the newspaper said.

He is scheduled for an Oct. 18 court appearance.

The arrest was the latest in a series of on- and off-field incidents involving the volatile Bradley.

The Dodgers traded him to Oakland in 2005 after several incidents -- including throwing a plastic water bottle toward fans during a game and engaging in a clubhouse confrontation with a reporter.
